Aaron Mills drove slowly towards the building, not at all surprised that the parking lot was empty although it had been plowed by the maintenance crew about an hour ago. He parked his gray Prius in a cleared spot near the front door and got out, pressing the lock icon on his key fob to secure the car. Shivering, Aaron made his way across the parking lot and into the small building where they kept their corporate office. They were new tenants to the building now that they had secured a lucrative account.

Aaron took the elevator to the second floor and used one of two sets of keys authorized to enter the office, other than the cleaning crew, to let himself into the small reception area. Cubicles were still being set up, but things were moving along well and they were all getting settled into the new office space. He turned the lights on as he came into his office and sat at his brand-new desk complete with a picture of his new baby and another of his husband wearing a floral shirt and a Hawaiian lei.

They had gone to Hawaii last year to celebrate their third anniversary, and little Brayden had been adopted shortly thereafter. He was only here right now because he had stupidly forgotten invoices that had to be submitted to the third-party accounting firm that was helping them with tax filing. They had been doing their own accounting for the interim but now that there was so much money Brian Fogel, his partner and the co-founder of their security company, felt that they needed a full-time accountant.

Aaron hadn’t argued with that.

They had interviews scheduled for later this week in the hopes they could get someone in there to help full-time and soon. This third-party deal with outsourcing the finances wasn’t super expensive, but their money could be better spent with an in-house accountant for the long haul. Aaron couldn’t believe that it was finally happening for them and their state-of-the-art security console. And it was all because of one of the biggest clients the company had ever acquired, Jake Pryor.

This guy was loaded, had money to burn and sure, he was crazy but crazy or not his money had catapulted their new company up there with the big guys. The questions he had asked about the system, and the specific upgrades he wanted were ones that no one else had or even heard of for that matter. Jake Pryor told them he needed a completely secured house and by God, they had given it to him. Their technology was unparalleled, and they were well on their way. As soon as Brian got back from his Christmas vacation, they had a meeting with a top investor so that they could further their technology. It was going to be insane once things really took off, but it was nothing that they couldn’t handle as long as they had the budget to hire and train more employees.
